Mossbauer Effect of Fine-Powdered Fe_<76>Pt_<24> Invar Alloy

The Mössbauer effect was measured on the $\gamma$ Fe76Pt24 Invar alloy using a fine-powdered sample in which the $\gamma$-$\alpha$ martensitic transformation can be suppressed even at 4.2 K. The Mössbauer spectrum gives no indication of the coexistence of distinct two magnetic states as observed in Fe–Ni Invar alloys. The average internal field is 360 kOe at 5 K, indicating that an Fe atom has its full moment even in the Fe76Pt24 Invar alloy.
