Martensitic Transformation and Phase Relation in Ni_<3-x>Cu_xSn and Ni_<3-x>Mn_xSn Alloys

The phase relation in Ni_<75-x>Cu_xSn_<25> and Ni_<75-x>Mn_xSn_<25> alloys was studied. There appeared four kinds of phases with the DO_<19>-type hexagonal the β-Cu_3Ti(2H)-type orthorhombic, the DO_3- and the Heusler (L2_1)-type cubic structures. The martensitic transformation from DO_3 to 2H was observed in the range of Cu content below about 20 at.% in Ni_<75-x>Cu_xSn_<25> alloy and in the range of Mn content below about 8 at.% in Ni_<75-x>Mn_xSn_<25> alloy. The ferromagnetism was also observed in the latter alloy system. The starting temperature of the martensitic transformation, M_s, and the ferromagnetic Curie temperature, T_c, were described as a function of the electron concentration.
