Phase Transition and Neutron Diffuse Scattering of {N (CD_3)_4}_2ZnBr_4

The phase transition in deuterated compound of {N(CD3).}.ZnBr.j was studied bydielectric and neutron scattering measurements. The transitionn temperature and itspressure coefficient are 14.2'C and 0.183 K MPa ', respectively. They are practicallyunchanged by deuteration. Above the transition, streak-like quasielastic neutrondiffuse scattering was found both along the c'-and along the #'-directions. The max-ima of the diffuse scattering locate around (h, k, /-l-0.4) and (h, A80.5, l). Theinverse intensity at (3, 0, 1.6) depends approximately Iinearly on temperature, and byextrapolation it tends to zero at - 4.7'C. On the other hand, the peak intensity at (3,1.5, 0) is less temperature dependent. Transverse acoustic phonons along the Z>'-andc'-directions do not show appreciable softening.
