Effect of Hydrostatic Pressure on the Phase Transitions in Monoclinic and Tetragonal RbD_2PO_4Crystals

The effect of hydrostatic pressure was studied for the phase transitions in thetwo forms of RbD.P03; monoclinic (ferrielectric) and tetragonal (ferroelectric)crystals. In monoclinic crystal, the [-II and II-III transition temperatures mono-tonically decrease with increasing pressure, and the phase boundaries are rep-resented by a quadric form of T.=T:-(Kp-f-yp' with the parameters of T:, K,and 7 being 1O2.5'C, -50 deg GPa-', -39 deg GPa-' for the I-II transitionand 4I.8'C, -24 deg GPa-', -l5.deg GPa " for the II-III transition, respec-tively. A pressure-induced phase of IV was newly observed above about 0.7 GPa.The transition to phase IV shows marked first order character. In tetragonalRbD.P0., the ferroelectric Curie temperature monotonically decreases withincreasing pressure with the initial slope of -47 deg GPa ". The slope of theCurie temperature against pressure seems to decrease as pressure increases aboveabout 0.3 GPa.
