X-Ray Diffraction Study on the Incommensurate-Commensurate Phase Transition in {N (CD_3)_4}_2CoCl_4

The space groups of six phases of {N(CD.).}.CoCl. were determined by X-raydiffraction as Pmcn(Z=4), incommensurate, P2.cn(Z=2O), P112./n(Z=I2),P12./cl(Z=4) and P2.2.2.(Z=I2), respectively in the order of decreasingtemperature. The deuteration causes the increase of the modulation wavenumber.This increase of the wave number agrees qualitatively with that expected fromthe distribution of modulation wavenumber in the reduced p-T phase diagram.
