Time Evolution of the Incommensurate Phase in K_2ZnCl_4 Observed by Dielectric Measurements and X-Ray Scatterings

At the incommensurate-commensurate transition in K.ZnCl., slow time variationsof the dielectric constant c and the satellite reflectins were observed. With increasingtemperature, the incommensurate satellites appeared and coexisted with the commen-surate ones when 2 began to rise up, and the commensurate ccnes disappeared when ebecame maximum. On cooling, the peak of C corresponded No the appearance of thecommensurate reflections. In both incommensurate and commensurate phases, theslow relaxation of C accompanied with the change of the mean modulation period andthe regularization of the modulated structure. The misfit parameter approached thesteady value very slowly witlu a logarithmic dependence on time at later stage.
