Satellite reflections at (0, 2, -4-<5) in SC(ND.). were measured by neutron diffractionwith and without d. c. bias electric field E5 in the vicinity of the ferroelectric III phase.At E.= 0 the parameter<5 continuously passes the value of l /8 anxd clamping at 1 /8 wasnot observed, while at E5 '= 129 kV m ' it was clamped at l /8 over a temperature rangeof 2.6K. By comparing the results with the E5=T phase diagram it is concluded that theferroelectric III phase in thiourea is caused by the lock-in mechanism of the incom-mensurate lattice modulation period at Sc..
