The N-N^^- and the ρ-π models of the pion are investigated under the assumption that near-by singularities are essential in the determination of coupling constants by the N/D method or, equivalently, by Green's function method. There are two cases in each model according as whether the pion propagator needs no subtraction or one, which are tentatively called intermediate and composite, respectively, in the present work. A fairly satisfactory agreement with an experimentally given coupling constant is obtained only for the intermediate pion in the ρ-π model, in which an attractive force due to the ω-meson exchange is very important. The result can be remarkably improved if the recently discovered A_1 resonance ( ap 1080 Mev) has the spin-parity 2^-.
