Composite Particles and Vanishing Wave Function Renormalization Constants in S-matrix Theory

Two methods have been known of deriving a relation between the coupling constant and the mass ratio concerning a S-state composite particle. With the first method, the relation is obtained from the condition that the wave function renormalization constant Z_3 is vanishing. With the second method, another relation is obtained from solving the S-wave scattering amplitude of the constituent particles through the N/D method under the condition that a pole of the composite particle should be given by a zero of D. It is shown that two relations thus obtained are inequivalent in most cases. In nonrelativistic potential model, the equivalence holds only when the potential has a zero range, namely, only in the model of the contact interaction such as the Lee model.
