Peripheral Resonance Production versus Kinematical Reflection and Non-Dual Property of a Pion Exchange

• A one-pion-and-pomeron-exchange model is proposed for single pion production processes, where the one-pion exchange is assumed to be non-dual to the direct channel resonances just like the pomeron. According to this model the Drell-Hiida-Deck mechanism should be regarded as non-resonant background so that it can be added to the diffractive resonance production without any trouble of double counting. Studying the processes π^-p→π^-π^+n and π^-p→π^-π^0p, we show that the model can reproduce the prominent features of the reactions and then the low mass enhancement of π^+n at 1.2 to 1.4 GeV is predominantly due to the Drell-Hiida-Deck effect and the ππ resonance contribution. The decay angular distributions of the ρ^0 and f^0 mesons, which are produced mainly by the one-pion exchange, are reasonably explained in terms of the effect of the kinematical reflection of the N^* resonances. It is pointed out that such a kinematical reflection is important also in the processes without pomeron exchange.
