• α-Haloacetophenones and benzyl chlorides can be converted into derivatives of β-keto acid and phenylacetic acid respectively by two succesive reactions, with Na<SUB>2</SUB>-Fe(CO)<SUB>4</SUB> and then with nitrobenzenes or iodine-ethanol as the oxidizing reagents.
