The head length and breadth were measured on 1,286 students, 692 males and 594 females, at the age of 19 to 23 years old. The students belonged to 3 different schools : fine arts, music, and medical. The mean values of the cephalic index were smallest in art students, and were largest in music students. Those of medical students situated between the two groups. This group difference was statistically significant only in males and coincided incidentally with our presumption. That is, if the occipital lobe in art students swells out posteriorly due to the better development of the visual area, the size of their head length might be increased to make the value of cephalic index smaller. The music students, on the other hand, may acquire longer dimension in head breadth, if the temporal lobe could bulge out bilaterally with more developed auditory area.
