As a discriminating criterion for masculinity and feminity in body build, Tanner (1951) proposed Androgyny Score which was calculated by formula: 3×biacromialbiiliac diameter, based on photogrammetry. In our present paper, this criterion was modified by somatometry. The variations of this score were analyzed on a random Japanese population consisting of 253 males and 241 females, 4 to 89 years of age. The highly significant sex differences of the score began to appear at 15 years of age. Quintic polynomial regression curves of the score in correlation to age in years ascended rapidly until about 25 years followed by a gradual decline toward the senile period. The values and curves for biacromial diameter represented the same tendency. However, those for bispinal and bicristal diameters failed to show any significant sex differences nor changes with advancing age. The correlation of the androgyny score to 13 other items was also analyzed.
