The patient was a female with Angle Class II malocclusion, lateral open bite, a constricted maxillary dental arch, and a high mandibular plane angle. A rapid maxillary expander was applied after all permanent teeth had erupted, followed by a high-pull headgear and a preadjusted edgewise appliance. The patient showed excellent improvement in occlusion after the active treatment. The occlusion was stable without relapse one year after a retention period of two years. The masticatory jaw movement improved to a normal grinding pattern, and the number of chews made before swallowing and the time needed to swallow a piece of gummy jelly decreased after the orthodontic treatment.
