Orthodontic treatment of an adult patient with a long face and dilaceration of the lower-right lateral incisor

An adult male patient with a long face and a dilaceration of the lower-right lateral incisor was treated with an edgewise appliance after the extraction of three premolars and the lower lateral incisor. In conjunction with lower-lip procumbency, mentalis contraction and a long lower face, the patient displayed a convex profile and protrusion of the upper and lower lips prior to treatment. After active treatment, the lower-right canine filled the lateral incisor position and the upper molar teeth were moved mesially, resulting in stable Angle Class I occlusion. The upper and lower-lip protrusion was reduced and the length of the lower face was maintained. The positive occlusal and esthetic results were preserved throughout the 24-month retention period.
