A case report : A patient with cleft of soft palate treated by the modified serial extraction method

girl with a cleft of the soft palate showed a skeletal Class II jaw base relationship and high mandibular plane angle. The maxillary right lateral incisor was congenially missing. Her mandibular dental midline deviated 5 mm to the left. Severe crowding was predicted in the future due to a small jaw and large teeth. The maxillary left lateral incisor was extracted, and serial extraction of mandibular deciduous canine, deciduous first molars and permanent first premolars was performed. When she was, edgewise appliances were placed. A good facial profile and occlusion were achieved after 2.5 years of edgewise treatment. The esthetics and occlusion were maintained after a retention period of 4.1 years.
