Laser ignition of premixed methanol/air was performed on a slot-nozzle burner. The minimum absorbed laser fluence for successful ignition per unit volume absorbing the laser energy was determined. The minimum absorbed laser fluence was found to increase monotonically with an increase in the equivalence ratio studied. This trend was successfully explained by means of a kinetic model and was regarded as a notable feature of laser ignition in which heat and radical species are simultaneously supplied through the initial photochemistry.
