Blue-Emitting ac-Electroluminescent Cells Based on ZnS:Tm, Li Powder Phosphors

The preparation and characterization of a blue-emitting alternating-current electroluminescent (ac-EL) cell based upon ZnS:Tm, Li powders are described. EL spectra clearly show dominant blue emission peaking at 2.6 eV originating from ^1G_4→^3H_6 transition. Advantages and problems of the powder-based ac-EL cell have been discussed in comparison with thin-film-based ac-EL cells.
