Photoconduction in Polyethylene Terephthalate. Mechanism of Photo-Carrier Transport.

The transport phenomena of the photo-carrier generated through ππ^* excitations in PET at 300 nm have been investigated. The steady state photocurrent can be explained from the space charge limited current theory, when a sufficient carrier reservoir at the cathode is maintained by photo-carrier generation at high light intensity. At low light intensity, a deviation from the theory occurs at high electric fields. This deviation is discussed and the spatial distributions of the internal field and carrier density are estimated for both good and poor reservoirs.
