When Streptomyces griseus strain 2247 was cultivated under stress conditions for growth, such as growth in media containing toxic compounds, pleiotropic mutants were obtained at a high frequency. These mutants have lost simultaneously streptomycin productivity, streptomycin resistance, spore-forming ability, and pigment productivity, although the genes for streptomycin biosynthesis and A-factor production are proficient.
