A new isolate of Streptomyces isolated from Thailand soil which utilized only D-glucose and salicin as carbon sources was named Streptomyces flavotricini subsp. pseudochromogenes. This isolate produced streptothricins F, E, D, and probably B. The streptothricin production was much better in a semi-synthetic mdium than in complex media and zinc ion depressed production strongly. Using a column of CM-Sephadex C-25,the streptothricin mixture produced in the culture broth could be separated into individual components. Column chromatography of the separated components on P-cellulose could effectively eliminate the impurities derived from the culture broth and degraded products from the streptothricins. In the culture broth of a large-scale fermentation, a unique streptothricin containing α-lysine was detected.
