Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements were carriedout to investigate the local structure around the light atom (Mg) in dehydratedMg(OH).-..0.. Using the UVSOR facility, the Mg-A edge spectra were carefullyobserved below and above the critical concentration of Mg0, ,x'.=0.68. The ratio be-tween the first and the second coordination numbers, N./N., increases with the pro-gress of dehydration in the range of x<x. and becomes nearly constant above x., im-plying that the vacancy enhancement and destruction of Mg layers occur in thedehydration.EXAFS, dehydration process, Mg(OH)z
