X-Ray Study of Phase Transitions in PbIn_1/2O_3

Ordered (S:0.8) and disordered (S=0) crvstals of PbIn?zzNb?7x0,c (PIN) were investiuatedby X-ray difl'raction rneasurement in the temperature range of 20K to 58OK. The (h/4 k/4 O)superlattice reflection for the ordered anti['erroelectric sample and the (h h h) fundamental re-flection for the disordered ferroelectric santple were measured for evaluation of the ternperatturedependence of their order paranaeters. The (h/2 k/2 O) (o-spots) and the (h/2 0 O) (/1V-spots)superlattice reflections were also observed. The temperature dependence of the integrated in-tensity of the o-spot was connpared with that of the (/7./4 k/4 0) reflection in both samples.Their reflections showed the sanae ternperature dependence. The origin of the a-spots is dtre tothe antiferroelectric distortion. The temperatture dependence of the integrated intensity of theo-spot of the ordered sample was different frozn that of the disordered sample. The differenceswere explained by a size effect of the cltrsters.
