Extreme Ultraviolet Absorption Spectra of K-Rb and K-Cs alloys

The optical conductivities of K-Rb and K-Cs alloys have been measured atliquid nitrogen tenaperature using synchrotrou? radiation frona a 0.4 GeV electrouastorage ring over the photon euaergy range from 10 to 30 eV. The spectra of thealloys have the profiles given by the proportional SLIIIIS of the spectra of purealkali tnetals autd this feature stxggests the localizatic>ra of the excitation of outer-most p-she1l.electrons. The critical expouaent of tire Fermi edge singularity isaltered by alloying. Its concentratioza-dependezace is ixaterpreted as indicatingthat the shape of spikes at the edge is affected not by the density of states butby the size of the core hole. The energy positioras of 'the edge are shifted by alloy-ing. The amount c7f the shift is dependent on the corrcetntration and increases forincreasing atomic uaumber. This, along with the chavage in the exponent, may be- ascribed to charge transfer effects due to alloying.
