Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectra of a Glassy Metal Ni_<40>Fe_<40>P_<14>B_6

Photoelectron spectra of a glassy metal, Ni..Fe..P.qB5, have been measuredover the excitation-energy range from 30 to 120 eV. The observed overall featureof the valence-band spectrum coincides with that of the reported XPS data,except that a weak broad band extending from 4 to 10 eV is found here. Themain 3#-band shows a composite structure; different component-bands havedifferent dependences of ionization cross-sections on the excitation energy. Weakresonant enhancement in the ionization cross-section is found in all the spectralfeatures for excitations around the 3p thresholds of both Fe and Ni. The locationof the peak enhanced in the weak-broad-band region upon excitations around thethreshold of the Fe 3p-excitation is different from that enhanced upon excitationsaround the threshold of the Ni 3p-excitation.
