Resonant Photoemission in Transition Metal Bromides

Resonant photoemission in the bromides of Ni, Co, Fe and Mn has been ob-served for excitations near the 3p thresholds of the metal ions. Resonance occursall over the valence band spectra including satellites, and the resonance excitationspectra are similar to those observed in the chlorides. Some features in the mainbands shift toward high-binding-energy side upon resonance. This shift gives riseto increase in the crystal field splitting on resonance for NiBr., FeBr. and MnBr.,but decrease for CoBr.; Racah parameters increase on resonance in all thebromides observed here.
