Electronic Band Structures for Non-Magnetic and Ferromagnetic States of Transition-Metal Intercalation Compound Mn_<1/4>TaS_2

LAPW band calculations are carried out for the non-magnetic and ferromagneticstates of transition-metal inte'rcalation compound Mn. z.TaS., It is clarified that theMn 3d states hybridize strongly with the Ta 5d.. state which extends along the c-axis,but the hybridization with the S 3p states is rather small. These results suggest that theMn-Mn interaction via Ta atoms is strong alonjg the c-axis. The calculated totalmagnetic moment per Mn (MnTa.S.) is 4.35 p., which is in agreement with the ob-served value 3.9 -4.2 p..[LAPW band calculation, transition-metal dichalcogenide, intercalation com- ll pound, ferromagnetic statesI
