Phonon anomalies of the 2#-polytype TaSe. and NbSe., which reveal astructural phase transition at T.=122.3 K and 33.5 K, respectively, have beenstudied theoretically. First, the phonon dispersion curves are calculated usingthe rigid ion model, and are in good agreement with the observation except forthe I. mode along the TM line. Then by taking into account the effective ion-ioninteraction caused by the electron-lattice interaction, the observed anomalousbehavior of the acoustic I. phonon branch is explained. It is shown that thetemperature dependence of the effective interaction leads to a softening of theI mode of the wave vector q=(2/3)TM which characterizes the superlatticebelow T..
