The nonlinear realizations of a compact, connected Lie group are studied. The problem of the linearization is discussed in detail on the basis of the topological structure of the group. It is shown that, in the quark model, the nonlinear realizations of the chiral SU(3)徨U(3) can be linearized through redefinition of field variables, but this is not generally the case for U(3)徼(3).
