Chiral Invariant Lagrangian with Massive Gauge Fields : Decays of Scalar Mesons and π-π Scattering

On the basis of a linear realization of chiral SW(2) symmetry, decay processes such as δ(966)→ηπ, σ(730)→_π, ην(1060)→2_π and Kν(1160)→K_π are discussed. It is shown that unless any derivative couplings are introduced, the generalized σ-model gives unacceptably large values for the decay widths. A model which incorporates massive chiral gauge fields, on the other hand, leads us to reasonable values. The latter model is found to yield Weinberg's results on π-π scattering lengths in the first order approximation. Corrections to his results are also given.
