The New Event in Cosmic Ray Showers and the U(4) Strange Spin Formalism

The previous U(4) model (strange spin formalism) in which strangeness has a spin property is reexamined and developed in connection with the new event recently detected by Niu et al. Some undesirable features in the previous paper are improved. It is emphasized that two new conservation rules may be very important in strong interaction: one is that of the new additive quantum number which explains the curious event in cosmic ray experiments and the other is that of the new spin (strange spin) which accounts for the experimental suppression of φ in production reactions and of the decay modes φ→ρπ and f´→ππ. From the viewpoint of this model it is shown that the observed new particle may be identified with a member of the strange 0^- mesons which does not belong to the ordinary octets in the framework of the {15} multiplet.
