A model in which a new kind of spin, namely "strange spin X (X_3=1/2S)" plays an important role besides isotopic spin I is set up on the basis of four constituent baryons with integral electric charges and integral baryon numbers. These basic baryons form two doublets such as (I=1/2, X=0) and (I=0, X=1/2). The mass formula characteristic of the model, based on the broken U(4)-symmetry, accounts for the mass spectra of a super-multiplet involving new baryons such as Z_0(1863), Z_1(1910), and aleph-particle (m=2040±50) in addition to the usual octuplet ones. Also the formula brings the Gell-Mann-Okubo mass relation to the usual octuplet baryons and the Bjorken-Glashow one to the usual nonuplet mesons. The selection rules based on the U(4)-symmetry account roughly for the low rate of the X^0-production in the π-N reaction, and are compatible with the branching ratios of the strong decay mode of ψ and with the suppression of the ψ-production in the N-N^^- and π-N reactions in comparison with the ω-production. Application of the present formalism to the electromagnetic interaction is also referred to.
