Mass comsumption of fossil fuel has caused critical problems for mankind, including depletion of resources and pollution of the global environment. Responding to this situation, solar cars powered by clean energy, have drawn keen attention worldwide for their ability to solve some important environmental issues. Tokai University has developed "Tokai-51SR, " a solar car. The paper discusses the driving energy and the electric balance of Tokai-51SR, based on date acquired in WSC'93. The combined efficiency of the solar panel and the electrical-mechanical systems determines the powers that is available for propulation. Tokai-51SR coverd 89.4 percent of the panel area with active sollar cells, giving an effective panel efficiency of 11.4 percent. The frontal projective area of the Tokai-51SR was 1.08m^2 and the coefficient of the drag of one sixth model was about 0.12 as the design value. However, From the analysing data of the solar car on a level road, we found that the drag coefficient of the actual car was about 0.145 and whole car efficiency was 0.8. The maximum power generation was not exceed 910 watts and the average power was 688 watts. The average running speed of the car at the 688 watts power generation had been recorded 47 km/h.
