Burst activity in cat EEG was analyzed from the view point of phase relations between the slow wave and the superposing spike wave. Cats were anesthetized with veterinary ketalar ranging in amounts of 50-110 mg/kg. Ketamine bursts were appeared in relation to the doses and the depth of the anesthesia. Within a series of the burst, the regularity of the wave relations was gradually destroyed with fluctuations. The spike amplitude was larger in corresponding to the center of the slow wave cycle at 2-3π radian in phase. Changes in the spike waves in relation to the phase of the slow wave was deduced to the excitability changes during the slow wave cycle.
