The sway of the center of gravity during sitting on the knees was analyzed in terms of the locus of the center of gravity and frequency power spectra of the sway. During sitting on the knees, the center of gravity shifted anteriorly, but the shift stopped when numbness developed in the lower extremities. The frequency power spectra of the antero-posterior sway during sitting on the knees showed two or three distinct peaks within about 10Hz. There was a great individual variation. The sway was more marked with eyes open than closed during sitting on the knees. With prolongation of the sitting, low peaks in the antero-posterior directions became small. The distribution of frequency power spectra of sway in the lateral directions shifed to 5Hz from 10 Hz. The decrease of low-frequency peak at the lateral directions during the prolonged sitting seems to be caused by muscular tension due to the flexion of the lower extremities.
