This study reports an investigation on taste perception sensitivity changes immediately after smoking in cigarette groups ; sixty two subjects participated. The investigation was limited to recognition thresholds and perception area variations on four basic tastes. Stimulation was performed with filter paper discs (6 mm diameter) in three different innervation areas ; chorda tympani, glossopharyngeal and the major petrosus innervation areas. After smoking, the recognition thresholds of sour in the innervation of chorda tympani and major petrosus nerve areas increased. The salty threshold was hardly effected. As for the sweet aftertaste after smoking was observed as bitter at first, and then this aftertaste transformed to sweet. The results indicated that the taste sensitivity immediately after smoking influenced sour and sweet tastes, depending on temporal changes in oral environment.
