Poisonous hairs and spinules of larvae of the slug caterpillar moth, Latoia consocia (Walker), were observed with SEM and X-ray microprobe. According to the combination of hairs and spines, there were four types of the hair bush. A single jointed hair was capable of ejecting the toxic content of 1.46×10^<-13> m^3 through the inner conduit from the basal bulb. This is equivalent to the volume reduction of 37% of the bulb. The spinules differentiated into two squamous kinds for mechanical irritation ; spindle spinules and serrated spinules. Some of the serrated spinules showed high calcium content or a combination of high sulfur and high potassium content in about 50% of the samples.
