As control compounds, the structural α- and ω-isomers of L-aspartyl- and L-glutamyl-L-histidine were synthesized by a conventional manner. The experiments on a column chromatography of Dowex 50 were carried out with a model mixture containing α- and ω-isomer, and the complete separation of the isomers was observed at acidic condition. A mixture of α- and ω-isomers of L-aspartyl- or L-glutamyl-L-histidine prepared through the coupling of benzyloxycarbonyl-L-aspartic or glutamic acid anhydride with L-histidine were separated into each isomer with a large column in moderate yields.
