Taka-acylase hydrolyzed an α-formyl derivative of ε-acyl-L-lysine faster than the corresponding α-acetyl derivative. Preparative resolution by crude Takaacylase afforded ε-formyl or ε-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-lysine from the corresponding α-formyl-ε-acyl-DL-lysine. The action of <I>p</I>-toluenesulfonic acid on α-formyl-ε-benzyloxycarbonyl-D-lysine under mild conditions afforded pure ε-benzyloxycarbonyl-D-lysine.
