Evaluation of morphological changes in red blood cells (RBC) in urine, the number of urinary casts and histopathological changes in 17 patients with IgA nephropathy is described. There was a significant correlation between the degree of morphological changes of RBC in urine or the number of urinary casts and that of histopathological injuries in these patients. It was suggested that the morphology of RBC in urine and/or the number of urinary casts might reflect the degree of histopathological changes in patients with IgA nephropathy
