Immunohistochemical Expression of c-Met (HGF Receptor) in Colorectal Cancer Lesions

The correlations of c-Met (HGF receptor) expression in primary colorectal cancer lesions with 11 clinicopathologic variables and survival were examined in 62 patients, to clarify the clinical roles of c-Met expression. An immunohistochemical expression of c-Met was found in 28 lesions (positive group) but not found in 34 lesions (negative group). Significant difference between the positive and negative groups was found 4 clinicopathologic variables including venous invasion, lymphatic invasion, lymphnode and liver metastases : these variables were significantly more in the positive group than in the negative group. In addition, a significant difference between the survival curves of the groups was found and the 5-year survival rate (68.9%) of the negative group was significantly higher than that (47.8%) of the positive group. From these results, it is concluded that the c-Met expression in the cancer lesions is closely associated with the clinicopathologic variables and the prognosis of colorectal cancer patients and that the difference of prognosis is mainly due to the vascular invasion and metastases.
