Anisotropic Linear Compressibilities of MnP Single Crystal

An attempt to measure the linear compressibilities of an MnP single crystal has been made under hydrostatic pressures by means of the paper strain gauge technique, in the range from -70 to 32℃ including the Curie temperature. Anomalous linear compressibilities are found near the Curie temperature, which are a λ-type peak along c axis and the λ-type dips along a and b axes. On the basis of the strain dependence of the exchange interaction, the relations between these anomalies, the thermal expansion coefficients and the pressure effects of the Curie temperature are discussed.
