Effect of Na^+ on Ca^<2+>-Binding on the Plasma Membrane of Barley Mesophyll Cells : an Electrophoretic Study

Characteristics of Ca^<2+>-binding on the plasma membrane of barley mesophyll cells were studied by a microelectrophoretic method. The results indicated that Na^+ ions could cause nonspecific reduction but not specific reduction in the total amount of Ca^<2+> bound to the plasma membrane of (salt-tolerant) barley mesophyll cells.
