Oxygen-evolving photosystem II complexes from spinach, which lack light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b proteins, were treated with a bifunctional crosslinking reagent, hexamethylene-diiso-cyanate. Identification of crosslinked proteins with antisera raised against various constituent proteins of the oxygen-evolving PS II complex showed that the extrinsic 33 kDa protein is located less than 11 Å from the 9.4 kDa subunit of cyiochrome b 559 and the 4.8 kDa product of psb I gene.
