• (±)-Cuparene, (±)-α-cuparenone, and (±)-tochuinyl acetate were synthesized from m-tolylthiomethyl chloride by using a Lewis acid-mediated [4^++2] polar cycloaddition with substituted cyclopentenes as a key step.
