Spin Relaxation of the F_A (Li) Center in KCl Due to the Hyperfine Interaction Modulated by the Tunneling Li^+ Ion : Electric Field Effects on the Spin Relaxation

• The sr>in relaxation of the Fa(Li) center in KCI has been exr>lained bv r>ror>osin:a mechanism due to the hyperfine interaction modulated by the tunneling Li'Jon. The electric field effects on the relaxation times, which were measured usingmicrowave saturation and saturation recovery methods of ESR, were analyzedusinx theoreticallv derived formulae. From the analvsis, the tunnelins r>arametersof level splitting J=0.2meV, dipole moment p=1.4eA, a quantity a=0.5,which could measure overlapping of tunneling wavefunctions, the rms value offluctuating magnetic fields (=3.l Oe) and correlation time (=1.7xl0='sec)were determined. From theoretical comparison of the observed isotope ratio ofthe spin lattice relaxation time, the isotope ratio, that a('Li)=1.2a('Li), wasderived when the ratio, that J('Li)=1.4J('Li), was adopted.
