We have specified the chetnical species of the dopants in FeCl3-doped polythiophene and poly(3-octylthiophene) throtrgh "Fe-lVI6ssbauer sttrdy as Feel.- witla slightly distorted tetrahedral struc-ture. Spectra with a qtradrupole-split doublet were obser'ved for polytlaiophene, while those forpoly(3-octylthiophene) were broadened by ra'xagnetic relaxation. Application of a magnetuc fieldinduced rnagraetically split spectra in both polymers due to a strppression of the relax?ttion fre-quency. [na these conducting polynaers there exist two kinds of chetaaical species with difl'erentrelaxation freqttency. The relaxation in poly(3-octyltlaiophetae) is considerably slower than inpolythiophene. The relaxation taaechanisraa is attributable to tlae interaction loetween dojcantspins arad carrier spins.
