Iodine-do)cod ):>olyviuayl-aIcol?ol(PVA) filxats were studied at 16K usiztg tlacM6ssbauer resoxtance of "'I. Experiuments were douue for tlte PVA filxns w'ith orwitltout boric acid, stretclted or not, and dojced witlt iodine only or co-doped witlviodixae and bromiute. For the iodine-dojced PVA filxats w'ithout boric acid, a naajoriodiute species is I . Tlae addition of boric acid causes the formation of linearpolyiodides w'itla syunnaetrical claarge po)culation, l j and I ; , and tlte stretch of tlaefilms increases the abuuvdance ratio of I ; . From tlae txnal)'sis of tlte iuttettsity ratio ol'Live quadrupole split liuaes, it was confirmecl tltat tlte liutear jaolyiodides, I j am?d I ,-, lieparallel to the stretching directiout. For iodine and bromin?e co-do)ced stretched filxttswitla boric acid iodine exists as tlte central ioua in tlae form of linear lBrj .[M6ssbauer spectroscopy, polyvinyl alcohol, iodine, polarization, stretched film, ll molecular orientationl
