The transition temperatures T.. and T. of tlte paramagnetic state to the spin-Peierls state and to the N<'el state are derived on 1-he basis of the phase Hamiltonian,which takes proper account of the quantum nature of the quasi-one-dimensionalIleisenberg antiferromagnet coupled with the la1.tice distortion. The expressions of7'SP and T. are essentially the same as those ob1.ained by (?ross and Fisher and byFowler. The tendency of the competition betweern the spin-Peierls state and the Neelstate for T. is in accordance with the phase diagram of the ground state obtainedpreviously.
