A reinvestigation has been made of an anomaly in the temperature de:pendenceof the ultrasonic attenuation in bismuth, which is observed when art electronLandau level and a hole Landau level approach simultaneously to the Fermi levelat high magnetic fields and at low temperatures. It has been founcl that inthe most anomalous case the anorrnaly in the temperature dependencse accom-panics an anomalous frequency dependence and these are quite se?tsitive tophysical imperfections in bismuth. On the basis if Kuramoto's theory of soundattenuation which is taking account of the short-range electron-hole cc>rrelation, the experimental results are analyzed, and it is suggested that one more ;tdditionalterm is required to explain the present anomalous data.
